In September 2015, the Ashaninka leader Benki Pianko, the Puyanawa leader Luiz Puye and the president of House of Indians President Marcelo Valladão met the European deputies to increase attention to the deforestation in the Amazon.

Tributes and awards for Benki Pianko Asháninka
On December 10th, 2013, the international day of Human Rights, Benki received from the city of Weimar the Award of Human Rights for his efforts for the peaceful coexistence between the Indians Asháninka and their "white" neighbours. In 2004 he received the National Human Rights Award 2004 to promote the human rights of the Asháninka people. By this way the timber traffic in the indigenous territories was revealed. The Asháninka people are suffering by timber smugglers coming from Peru. The smugglers don’t respect the Brazilian sovereignty. In June 2012 he received the E-Award from UNESCO, the Institute-E and the city of Rio de Janeiro, to reward his initiatives for sustainable development. |
