Presentation

The foundation House of Indians is a European initiative born from the desire to help the Indian tribes from the Brazilian Amazon rainforest in their battle to preserve their forest and their culture, and to improve the climate. Our projects include:
  • A supermarket where people can trade plastic waste for food;
  • 15.000 trees planted in the Ashaninka and Puyanawa tribes, as part of a reforestation project;
  • The installation of a water filtering system, security cameras, and lights based on solar energy in the Ashaninka and Puyanawa tribes.
But our foundation aims to be more than a help center. We work for an exchange of knowledge, between on one side the European technology, and on the other side the thousands of years of nature knowledge of the people with whom we work. The Indians with whom we are in contact have brought us, amongst other:
  • Conferences in our universities in Belgium and Switzerland;
  • A magazine teaching children about recycling and sparing energy, magazine that they came distribute in our schools in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The foundation is closely related to the businesses Fritland and Samahuma, located in the center of Brussels next to the Bourse. A part of the benefits of these activities is directly donated to finance our projects to help the Indians in Brasil.

Questions and answers

What is the essence of your foundation?
We aim to develop political strategies to spread our message, and practical strategies to develop our projects.

Where did you the idea of the foundation?
Our multiple trips in the Amazon rainforest allowed us to discover a great cultural richness and also showed us the fragility of these ecosystems. The foundation was born out of this consciousness.

From where do you get the motivation to continue your work?
From the enrichment we get from being in contact with the Amerindian people, from the opportunity to contribute as a European to ecosocial projects that lead towards a positive change for our planet.

What other projects do you see for the future?
  • We want to transform an ordinary city in a ecotouristic center in the middle of the Amazon rainforest;
  • We want to develop the Yorenka center (a center of exchange of knowledge in the Amazon rainforest) and share the European and indigenous knowledges;
  • We want to create technological and agricultural companies that would transform local waste into energy.
